Dear St. Mark’s Ark Parents,
First of all, we want to thank you for your loving support of St. Mark’s Ark Preschool, some of you for many, many years. There are no words to express the level of difficulty involved in making the decision to suspend operations for the next few months. The Ark is a key mission of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the congregation shares in your grief that we have had to make this very difficult decision.
We also want to assure you that the Ark WILL reopen. Realistically, we are looking at 2021, but we hope we will reopen not too far into the first of the year. I have spoken with many of you and have been very touched by several requests for contact once we reopen. We will certainly let all of you know when the Ark will, again, be operational.
We recognize that there are many questions as to why Ark operations have been suspended. The decision was made after many hours of discussion and questioning whether or not there was another means of looking at the business issues of the Ark, without suspending operations. Ultimately, the Congregation Council came to the unanimous conclusion that we could not, in good conscience, hire a new director without first re-examining the fundamental structure and business aspects of the Ark. To this end, we have formed the Ark Advisory Committee, which will begin work as early as next week, to look at the mission of the Ark and to develop a proposal for the Congregation Council to consider as to how we move forward. Out congregation will vote on any proposed changes at our annual meeting in December of 2020.
Should you have any questions or further concerns, please feel free to contact us through the church office at 904-396-9608 or send and email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
